Kirk Hill Trail

Kirk Hill Trail
The Kirk Hill trail is 1.6 miles in length. It starts in a marshy meadow and climbs into a dry hillside overlooking the Gallatin Valley. It is mostly shaded and weaves through old-growth Douglas-Fir forests and beautiful aspen groves. This trail features many flowers and plants, particularly in the spring. The trail is very steep and can be slippery when wet. It connects into the Gallatin National Forest, accessing hundreds of miles of additional trails.

Hylate Canyon Recreation Area

Hyalite Canyon Recreation Area
Hyalite Reservoir is located 10.5 miles up Hyalite Canyon. It contains cutthroat trout and arctic grayling. A ‘no wake’ rule has been instituted, allowing only low speed motoring for trolling. Campgrounds are located on the east shore of the lake offering family camping units, picnic sites, boat ramps, outhouses, and drinking water. Recently added was a picnic pavilion on the west shoreline of the Hyalite Reservoir Dam. The pavilion was built in collaboration with the Montana State University School of Architecture, The Gallatin National Forest and local construction professional volunteers.
